Your hosts Michael and family have been at the Golden Lion for 26 years after buying it in January 1988. The building had been used as an outdoor centre before that and required extensive renovation before opening back up as a free house during Easter 1988, and a short time after as a hotel on 14th May 1988.
During renovation an ancient well over 45 ft deep was discovered to the rear of the Hotel. The well has been made into an interesting feature.
It is believed that the Golden Lion was a coaching inn during the sixteenth century and the old coach highway can still be followed on foot.
A photograph taken in 1920 shows that the old arched entrance to the courtyard and stables was modified at a later date to make the dining room and bedrooms.
